Board Retreat Helps Set Organizational Goals

today2 February 2026

Background

On a sunny Saturday at the end of January, the KURU Board of Directors and several guest attendees spent the day conducting a SWOT analysis. SWOT is a strategic planning tool identifying internal Strengths and Weaknesses, plus external Opportunities and Threats.

We listed many strengths of the organization: great volunteers – we own our building – lots of goodwill in the community – financial
stability – great underwriters – committed board members and volunteers – professional shows – strong community connections – a tower and broadcast equipment – diverse program content – remote programming – we deal with off air
situations quickly – fun and fulfilling – great listenership

From the discussions and dialog, we decided on several important areas for focus in 2026. They include:

1. Better support of program hosts and DJs.

2. Improved website and social media formats.

3. Stronger organizational and financial controls and reporting.

4. Develop a Program Committee.

5. A stronger volunteer program that recruits, trains, supports, and celebrates all of our volunteers

Thanks to everyone who helped make the retreat a success and to our supporters who work to make KURU Radio an important community asset.
